Open Hands Christian Counseling exists to make accessible, professional, and Christ-centered counseling available to the local community.
Currently, when members seek counseling with outside therapists in the community—even at discounted rates—they are often charged between $60 and $125 per session. These costs can make ongoing care unattainable for many individuals and families.
In partnership with our community churches, Open Hands Christian Counseling would provide a licensed or pre-licensed Christian counselor who integrates professional mental health practice with biblical faith.
An example of stewardship: A church contribution of $3,500 per month could underwrite approximately 60 counseling sessions (15 per week). This is not an expectation but a demonstration of how funding directly translates into significant outreach—extending care to dozens of individuals and families across the greater Modesto community.
Clients would pay just $35 per session, with the remainder of the cost subsidized by the church’s partnership fee. This structure makes counseling truly affordable for individuals and families while allowing your church to extend compassionate care to those who may otherwise be unable to access professional help.
Why Clients Contribute a Session Fee
One question that often arises is: Why should clients pay a session fee if the church is already covering the majority of the cost?
Research indicates that when clients make even a modest financial investment in their counseling, they tend to be more engaged in the therapeutic process. Having “skin in the game” fosters accountability, increases follow-through with appointments, and deepens the client’s personal investment in their own growth and healing journey.
For this reason, each client contributes $35 per session, while the church supplements the remainder through its partnership fee. This model ensures that counseling is both accessible and effective.
Additionally, the client contribution supports the overhead involved in providing high-quality, professional counseling at your site. This includes:

Electronic health record systems for confidential documentation and scheduling.
Liability insurance to safeguard both the client and the church.
Ongoing professional training to equip counselors with the most current therapeutic and faith-integrated practices.

To provide financial stability and assurance, Open Hands guarantees that this fee will remain frozen for three years. This commitment allows your church to plan confidently, knowing that costs will not increase during this period.
In addition, it is our goal to walk alongside your church, should you desire, to eventually establish your own independent professional counseling center. We would count it a privilege to help you develop a sustainable model of counseling ministry within your church body, ensuring long-term accessibility and impact for generations to come.
We also understand that ministry needs can change. For this reason, your church will retain the flexibility to terminate this partnership at any time with 30 days’ written notice.
