Creative Arts Therapy
God, the Master Creator, made us in His image—and with that comes the gift of creativity. At Open Hands Christian Counseling, we believe healing is not always found in words alone. Creativity becomes a pathway for God’s Spirit to bring comfort, expression, and renewal. Creative Arts Therapy provides safe, engaging ways for individuals to process experiences, discover their God-given strengths, and connect with others in meaningful ways.
Through activities such as sewing, crocheting, music, drama, and art, clients are invited to explore their emotions, reduce stress, and gain new coping skills. These therapies use the language of creativity—stitching fabric, playing a melody, stepping into a role, or painting on canvas—to help unlock feelings that may be difficult to express in traditional talk therapy.
Sewing & Crocheting: Build patience, focus, and a sense of accomplishment as the steady rhythm of stitching mirrors God’s steady work in our lives.
Music: Use rhythm, melody, and song as instruments of praise, reflection, and healing for the soul.
Drama: Explore personal story and identity, while remembering that God is the Author of our lives and can redeem every chapter.
Art: Express what words cannot capture by creating visual reminders of God’s truth, beauty, and promises.
Creative Arts Therapy is especially helpful for those coping with trauma, grief, anxiety, depression, or recovery. It provides both individual healing and a community of support, reminding participants of Ephesians 2:10: “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works…” Even in brokenness, God weaves us together, creating beauty and wholeness from every stitch, note, and brushstroke.
